Giving Youth A Chance To Succeed

One of the goals of INMA foundation is to teach the younger generation a trade or skill that will benefit them in life.  We have the opportunity to see this goal come to pass at our Vocational Training Center (VTC) located inside the refugee camp of Bourj Al- Barajne in Beirut.  The training school aims to processes 40 students each year who graduate with a solid understanding of how to become an electrician or plumber. By the end of our program, the student should be able to speak and understand basic English and work in the field of electricity or plumbing. One of the things we are most proud of at the VTC is our unique graduation project. It is a project that benefits both the surrounding community and students. At the end of each semester, each student can practice his newly learned skills by working side by side with his teacher and classmates. Many families building or repairing homes in the camp invite the recent graduates to do plumbing and electricity work for free. The host homes provide the needed material and the students use their newly learned skills to complete the project. The current VTC class has been afforded two such opportunities in the last month as they near the end of their semester.  Through these projects the students have proved to themselves and to others that they are ready to join the workforce of plumbers and electricians in the camps.
